Intro blog

Hello, my name is Judith Reyes and I am now a senior at Fort lauderdale high school. I took the Aice media studies AS level the previous year and I am back this year taking the A level course. Last year when taking as media studies, I realized that theres an entire world behind media. That its not just photography or filming, there are a numerous amount small factores in the media world that are required and essential. I learned about the sound in films, how to creat these sounds and identify different sounds. A wide variety of shots and angles, and so much more. Not much has changed about myself from last year,  over the summer since I didn't go outside the country, I spent a majority of my time watching films. During these films I was able to identify different shots, angles, which I learned last year which I think it very interesting. My favorite movie genre of all time is suspense, then romance, and finally action. One of my favorite suspense films originally from Netflix is t

After a long process of filming and editing, it is important to reflect. This is my reflexion on this task on every aspect of this process and everything that I've learned. It was challenging but I learned so many things and aquired new skills for my media journey.

Final Task: Mother

Image
Our movie entitled Mother which falls under the thriller genre, follows a young girl named Jane and her relationship with her mom. Jane's home life has become quite difficult. Her mother has tasked her with bringing other young people home, in order to kill them. It is clear that Jane is conflicted about following through, but still does because she does not want to disappoint her mother. The opening sequence demonstrates the dynamic between the two on a day that Jane brings a new victim home.

Finishing up the film

As the deadline for our project approach, my group and I are finishing up our film. The last elements that I am currently deciding with my group to wrap up our film are the overall sounds. Our film will have two different type of sounds. One type of sound in the beginning of the film and the other sound in the middle of the film. We are also deciding the font for the titles. We want to choose a font that is most adequate with our genre which is thriller.  Another element yet to be added to the completion of our film is the filter. My group and I are deciding for a filter that gives off a creepy and suspenseful sensation. As I mentioned previously, we divided up the scenes within the group. There are a total of 60 scenes and 4 group members so each member had 12 scenes to edit. Last night, I finished with scenes. They were not very dificult scenes to edit as compared to other scenes because none of my scnes had dialogue. For the sound, I just had to mute most of the scenes until we dec

Completing the scenes (filming)

As my filming journey with my group continues, we find ourselves concluding the filming process of our thriller film. This is the last week until our project is due and we’re almost completed. Today my group and I finished filming the scenes we had not yet filmed. One of our team members, Raquel, and myself had to travel for a week, therefore we were not able to film all of last week. We decided to film today and we finished the filming process. There were quite a few scenes left to be filmed. This time it was not very complicated for us as we were very well prepared for our filming day. To prepare for filming today, I worked with one of the team members, Hannah. Hannah and I decided to go over our planning blogs that have been published previously. Our storyboard is included in that blog. We went over our storyboard which has a total of 60 scenes. We analyzed each of the scenes. As I read the scenes to her, she developed new ideas as for the shots or angles. We decided to change som

Resuming the editing process

Continuing with our film, my group and I have have started editing each of our scenes. There are a total of 60 scenes. Each one of us has at least 12 scenes to edit. Even though there are a few scenes yet to be shot, we have begun to edit the scenes that are completed since there are quite a few. As for me, I have 12 scenes to edit. Beginning with the sharpening knives scene and ending with the mother making tea from the kettle. The first scene that I edited was the knives scene. This scene consisted of a close up shot of the knives indicating that the evil mother is prepping to get on with her sinister plan. Therefore, this scene has a great amount of tensión and suspense as the audience is viewing the dangerous weapon the mom is using for her plan. Which is why I made the lighting of this scene be low key lighting to créate the suspense within the scene. I also made the scene a bit in slow motion to emphasize the mother sharpening the knvies. As for sound, I inserted an eerie creepy

Editing process

As the filming journey continues, my group and I have still not finished filming. We have about 3 scenes to film to be able to complete the movie. The scene where Emily and her friend go into the house, the scene where the mom makes Emily fall asleep with the tea, and the ending scene. As I begin my editing process, I am currently still looking over the scenes that I have to edit. I am not able to edit at this moment due to the fact that I am in a different country because of an emergency last minute trip. As I am looking over the scenes, I am writing down ideas to make the film more creative. Also, I am writing down what needs to be edited, for example, what needs to be cut out from the scene. One of my scenes is where the mom is sharpening the knvies. In my opinion, that scene needs to have a bit of low key lighting added along with creepy eerie music since those are dangerous weapons and it leaves the audience at the edge of their set. The next scene is the scene where Emily and Jan
