Creative Critical reflection
For my product, I used conventions in the way that I added different colors to the commercial when editing, used happy sounds and used a few transitions to make it flow. At the start of my commercial, I changed the color to black and white and when my product was introduced I changed it right back. The reason for this was because I wanted to illustrate with the black and white color the negativity of not having the product and how it is all better with my product, which is why it looks brighter and it goes back to the normal color when the product is introduced. Throughout, the entire commercial, I also used a joyful upbeat sound. For my product, with it being a product used for pets especially bunnies, the social groups would be people that have pets in particular, bunnies. The type of people who are looking for a product to take their bunny out for a walk because maybe they just can't find the perfect product.
The way my product engaged with audiences was that I tried to be creative through the following elements. Since it was a commercial with a bunny, I tried to make it seem very happy, joyful and positive like. The sound used throughout the commercial was happy background music. The reason for this was because I wanted to create a sense of joy and positivity in the audience as they watched the commercial. When filming, unlike a commercial that is frightening like, where you would film at night to create a sense of horror, for my commercial I chose a day in the afternoon where it was sunny and the wind was blowing to, once again, illustrate that positivity and happiness. I also changed the start color of the commercial to black and white to make the audience feel the bad side of not having the right harness to take your bunny out for a walk. Being that this is a commercial advertising a product for a pet, it would most likely be distributed through TV. This commercial is mostly to be shown on tv through a local channel since it is about a pet and a product for a pet.
At the beginning of this project, I didn't really know much about editing since I had never edited anything before. I had a bit of difficulty but not too much since it was not a project that required a professional level of editing. I had to learn the basics of editing for beginners since I did not know pretty much anything. I learned how to download the software I was going to use to edit my commercial and since I filmed them in many takes, I had to also learn how to mash them up all together and connect them so it would look like a whole. I learned how to add sounds and to cut out certain parts in the videos that needed to be cut out and with that came the transitions, since those were parts that needed to be cut out I could not leave it like that I had to add transitions so it would flow. I had to learn to record a voice over and import it into my commercial which was difficult because I had trouble recording at first but it all worked itself out. I also learned some of the key elements in editing, which is how to import, export and render.
Since I used adobe premiere on my computer, that helped me greatly in developing my filming project because it is a software that has many useful, creative, and helpful tools when it comes to editing. For this software, there was a wide variety of sounds that I was able to integrate in my project. This software allowed me to easily place the sound throughout the commercial and also it had many factors when it came to changing the color of the commercial. Also, my computer, I feel like editing is a computer is much more effective than editing on a phone. Editing might be limiting for some people on their phones, But on the computer, I was able to edit broadly.
