Creative Critical Reflection
1. 1. How does your product use or challenge conventions AND how does it represent social groups or issues?
My product used conventions in the way that we added different factors to the different categories of the music video. One of the elements added was different color lighting. This was used to emit creativeness and make it look more productive. Also, since it was meant to be a fun and childhood tv show music video, we wanted to make it that way too. Through our location, which was the beach, it's a fun place where many people go to have fun. Not only the location but also as mentioned before, different type of lighting so it won't look boring but instead look amusing for the audience. We also used other elements such as transitions to make the music video flow smoother throughout. For my product, with it being a music video that derives from a childhood tv show, the social groups would be kids and teens ages 9-12 years old. This music video illustrates infant characteristics such as teen relationships, friends, etc. which is why children and teens would enjoy viewing it.
2. How does your product engage with audiences AND how would it be distributed as a real media text?
My product engages with audiences through the way it was portrayed. It was portrayed as entertaining and amusing. We did this through out location, we tried to choose a lively place to try to relate it to the song and also where the song comes from, which is a kid's tv show. The beach is a beautiful and pleasing place for many people which is one of the reasons why we chose it for our music video. We also tried to be amusing through the acting of the film and dance. Also, we added effects such as transitions and different type of color lighting so the audience is able to enjoy what they're viewing, this way it does not look dull. This product would be distributed through the television in a child's channel. There are many kids/teens channels such as nickelodeon or Disney channel where this music video would fit great it since it portrays a childlike form.
3. How did your production skills develop throughout this project?
At the beginning of my media journey, I knew absolutely nothing about filming nor editing. Within time, I have grown and evolved. This was my second time editing a project and I feel like I grew. I learned new things but also practiced editing skills that I already knew like cutting parts out that were irrelevant. Adding different transitions into the film and also adjust the lighting. Something new that I learned with this project was adding the song into the music video and since there were certain scenes where the actor had to lip synch, we had to make the song match what the actor was singing. I also practiced key elements in editing, which is how to import, export and render.
4. How did you integrate technologies – software, hardware and online – in this project?
Since I used IMOVIE on my computer, that helped me greatly in developing my filming project because it is a software that has many useful, creative, and helpful tools when it comes to editing, especially when a phone is being used to film which is what we did. For this software, there was a wide variety of sounds that I was able to integrate in my project and also when it came to editing lighting, we were able to pick out of a wide variety of different colors for lighting which we changed for many scenes where the lighting was either too bright or too dark. Also, my computer, I feel like editing on a computer is much more effective than editing on a phone. Editing might be limiting for some people on their phones, but on the computer, I was able to edit broadly.
