Title Research: Final Destination



What titles are displayed during the opening sequences? The thriller film Final Destination, from Art of the Titles, initializes by first displaying the title of the film. Then proceeds to display the names of the cast and crew, producers, and the studios. Such names include costume designer, director of photography, production designer, and so on. 

What images are prioritized in the opening sequence? Final Destination is a thriller franchise. Most

or if not all their opening sequences contain very dark, aggressive, sinister images. Images

 prioritized in the opening sequence are spooky like toys staring directly to the screen. Other

images of skull heads are also shown. Images of objects such as nails, knives, are images used

typically used throughout the opening sequence of the film. 

What connotations do these images carry?

The connotation that these images portrayed carry, is a meaning of death and horror. Most of these

images are creepy and gloomy which creates suspense and fear. The eerie looking toys portrayed are a

 clear example of that as they generate fear by their appearance. Also, skull heads illustrate a meaning

 of death just as the images of the harmful objects are shown to demonstrate violence. 

How does the film establish a feeling of the genre from the outset? 

From the opening sequence, the audience can sense a feeling of fear and suspense. Various elements

are used to generate this form of feeling in the audience such as the type of images used as already

stated above. The fade Transitions which provide a spooky feeling the same way the color and tone

of the images are displayed as very eldritch. This creates even more of a frightening affection as it is

an ominous type of sound therefore increasing suspense and mystery within the audience. 

 What strategies are used to ensure the film appeals to its target audience? The sinister, frightening 

plot of this thriller film grabs the attention of the audience who enjoys viewing creepy, spooky films filled 

With aggression and violence. However, it’s dark lighting and the action involving  psychological games and

manipulation also attracts those who take pleasure in these types of movies.

How has technology been used effectively? You want to consider camera angles, transitions

and editing techniques. There were many angles, transitions and editing techniques used throughout this 

Film to create a spookier like sensation. There were numerous zoom shots used to focus on creepy looking

objects such as toys, fans and also focusing on the titles of certain books about death. The transitions

created a very suspenseful affection as there were many fade transitions used. It was also very slow paced

 as this would intrigue the audience even more.

Resuming the editing process

Continuing with our film, my group and I have have started editing each of our scenes. There are a total of 60 scenes. Each one of us has at least 12 scenes to edit. Even though there are a few scenes yet to be shot, we have begun to edit the scenes that are completed since there are quite a few. As for me, I have 12 scenes to edit. Beginning with the sharpening knives scene and ending with the mother making tea from the kettle. The first scene that I edited was the knives scene. This scene consisted of a close up shot of the knives indicating that the evil mother is prepping to get on with her sinister plan. Therefore, this scene has a great amount of tensión and suspense as the audience is viewing the dangerous weapon the mom is using for her plan. Which is why I made the lighting of this scene be low key lighting to créate the suspense within the scene. I also made the scene a bit in slow motion to emphasize the mother sharpening the knvies. Editing process

As the filming journey continues, my group and I have still not finished filming. We have about 3 scenes to film to be able to complete the movie. The scene where Emily and her friend go into the house, the scene where the mom makes Emily fall asleep with the tea, and the ending scene. As I begin my editing process, I am currently still looking over the scenes that I have to edit. I am not able to edit at this moment due to the fact that I am in a different country because of an emergency last minute trip. As I am looking over the scenes, I am writing down ideas to make the film more creative. Also, I am writing down what needs to be edited, for example, what needs to be cut out from the scene. One of my scenes is where the mom is sharpening the knvies. In my opinion, that scene needs to have a bit of low key lighting added along with creepy eerie music since those are dangerous weapons and it leaves the audience at the edge of their set. Filming Review

 My group and I have taken a pause from filming. The last day we filmed was Tuesday, March 23. The next day we film will be the last since we have completed most of the film. To better prepare for our next filming session, I am currently reviewing my role and lines. This way, it will be easier not only for me but for my group. This will help us to not have to reshoot the scene multiple times and take more time than needed. In the scenes that are yet to be filmed, my character has many lines and the acting has to be adeuqate. The scene where Emily drinks the tea, she has to faint and act weak. Practice makes perfect so the more I practice my lines and character, the more unchallenging things will go. Also, I have been looking into the story board my group and I completed. I have crossed out or set aside the scenes we have already completed in the storyboard. I have marked the ones we haven't.
